About My Career as a Technical Communicator,
Project Manager, and IT Professional

The History of My Career

My career thus far has been diverse, spanning manufacturing, construction, safety compliance, and emergency planning and response, as well as tutoring, project leadership, and IT. I am an experienced project manager and Certified Scrum Master, familiar with both agile project methodologies and more traditional project management methods. My background and experience as a communications and IT expert help make me an effective program and project leader, stakeholder liaison, and team manager.

Early Contributions: 1987 – 2005

My hands-on experience in manufacturing and safety started early in my career. During my time at Modern Windows and Doors, I improved line productivity and set new records, enabling a 30% increase in sales, all while maintaining a 0% safety incident rate. At Mountain Valley Spring Water, I ensured compliance with NSF International standards through excellence in operations and was responsible for responding to inspections. At Arkansas Marketing and Labeling, I doubled production by improving ways to re-roll labels. I have also contracted and managed construction projects, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.

Contributions Since 2008

For the past decade, I have served at the Arkansas State Medical Board—working alongside the Quality Assurance Officer, CEO, Department Managers, Board Members, Legislators, Insurance Providers and other external stakeholders—to achieve and maintain certification by the National Committee for Quality Assurance by developing metrics and analyses that have enabled us to reduce errors and turn-around time, thereby increasing productivity across all departments. I have also designed the framework for a Project Management Office, which would coordinate projects across the organization, thereby efficiently prioritizing IT projects and streamlining project schedules.

My duties at the Arkansas State Medical Board span the full project lifecycle, including: maintaining internal and external user/customer relations; gathering requirements; identifying project goals; developing scope, timeline, and budget; allocating resources; managing tasks and project status reporting; and developing products, testing, and delivery. In September 2017, I was promoted to IT Department Manager.

I am an active member of the Project Management Institute, Central Arkansas Chapter, where I currently serve on the Board of Directors as Vice President of Communications. While serving as Director of Technology, I was named the 2016 Distinguished Volunteer of the Year.
